Entropia is an immersive audiovisual performance developed by Fraction in collaboration with Louis-Philippe St-Arnault, Nature Graphique, and Création Ex Nihilo. The piece was born from Fraction’s research on 3D ambisonics and experimental music, evolving into a full-scale exploration of the spatial interaction between sound, physical light, and 360° visuals.
At the core of Entropia is a geodesic, LED-filled sphere that serves as a dynamic, audio-reactive centerpiece. The sphere is surrounded by immersive visual projections and synchronized sound, creating a seamless interaction between physical light and generative digital content. The sound artist performs inside the sphere, while the visual team manages real-time pixel mapping and generative visuals, transforming the space into a multi-sensory environment.
The audience is placed within the interstitial space formed by the duality of the physical light from the sphere and the external visual projections. This layered architecture, combined with real-time 3D sound spatialization, creates a fully immersive experience where each medium influences the others in real time.
Entropia is a co-production with the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) and benefited from the Residency Program in Research and Creation at SAT in Montreal. The first iteration of the piece was presented during the IX Symposium on Immersive Experience in May 2015.
